100 Days Left in the Year: What Should You Fix in Your Business?

After today, there are 100 days left in the year.

That may not sound like much. But for a business owner, it's enough time to make meaningful progress on something you've been putting off.

When I talk to business owners, there's almost always something they know they should be working on but haven't gotten around to yet.

Maybe the financials need to be cleaned up.

Maybe you've needed to hire a key employee for months.

Maybe too much revenue depends on one customer.

Maybe important processes still live entirely in your head.

Or maybe you've spent years building the business but still don't really know what it's worth.

These aren't necessarily problems you fix in a day. But 100 days is enough time to start addressing them.

Pick One Thing

It's easy to create a long list of everything you'd like to improve before the end of the year.

I'd take a different approach.

Pick one thing that would make your business stronger going into next year.

If your financial reporting isn't where it should be, start there.

If the business depends too heavily on you, identify one responsibility you can begin handing off.

If customer concentration concerns you, focus on growing the rest of the customer base.

If you don't know what the business is worth, get a realistic understanding of its value and what is driving that number.

The goal isn't to completely transform the business by December 31.

It's to make sure you're not having the exact same conversation with yourself on January 1.

What Will You Do With the Next 100 Days?

A lot can change in 100 days when you focus on one thing.

So as we head toward the end of the year, I'd ask yourself one question:

What's one thing about your business you don't want to still be talking about on January 1?

Pick that one.

You still have 100 days to do something about it.
